Save the Date - March 5th Public Information Session
SAVE THE DATE - Protecting our Futures’ Public Information Session – March 5th
We are pleased to invite you to a public information session we are hosting to discuss the proposed spa and hotel development in the Rundleview Greenspace. Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Thursday, March 5th
Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Location: Bill Warren Training Centre - Canmore Nordic
There will be a presentation of approximately half an hour starting around 7:00 p.m. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity to meet with members of Protecting our Futures to discuss the key issues related to the development including loss of greenspace/the MDP amendment requirement, community risks and wildlife and environmental concerns. We will also have some lawn signs available by donation.
If you want to protect this greenspace, please join us on March 5th.
New Voice of Canmore – Nicola Mosley
We have posted a new Voice of Canmore on the website as well as on Protecting our Futures’ Facebook page. Check out Nicola Mosley’s thoughtful video where she speaks on behalf of the trees living on the greenspace.
“This forest, these trees, although quiet, have been in communion with this valley and this place for generations. They are the original spa. They're a free spa that take care of our nervous systems that the community members and wildlife get to walk through. And these trees are what create place. They might seem quiet and tall and for some people insignificant, but they're what make this place for all the other beings to flow through, whether it's human or wild others.”
If you are interested in making a Voice of Canmore video to express your thoughts on the proposed development, please email us at protectingourfutures@gmail.com.
What’s happening on the Greenspace?
Those driving by the site will have noticed that drilling has continued these past few weeks; we understand that the drilling is nearly complete.
The developer’s website has not been updated as to the status of the various required reports, such as environmental and undermining, or when the developer plans to submit an application to the Town of Canmore.
Not a Done Deal
This project is not a done deal, but we need your help to prevent it from happening. So what can you do? Here are a few suggestions:
- Get informed; visit Protecting our Futures Website and attend our information session on March 5th
- Write a letter to the RMO
- Talk to your friends and neighbours to make them aware of what is being proposed for this greenspace
- Talk to Council Members and let them know how you feel about the proposed development
- Follow, like, and share our posts on Facebook and Instagram (Protecting Our Futures)
- Be a Voice of Canmore (contact us at protectingourfutures@gmail.com if you’d like to participate in this project)
We Appreciate your Contributions!
Over the past 18 months you in the Canmore community and beyond have funded almost $25,000 which is being used for community meeting expenses, signs, the website, other communications costs, and expert advice and analysis expenses. We anticipate additional funds will be needed in the coming months for ongoing communications expenses and further expert advice as the developer posts new technical reports. We appreciate any donations that you are able to provide either by:
