Thank you to everyone for displaying the “No Hotel or Spa on Public Land” lawn signs! They are making a difference – people are seeing them, speaking up and voicing opposition to the proposed hotel/spa. We have more signs in and would like to keep spreading the word! You can request a new or replacement sign by e-mailing pofsigns@gmail.com.
As inevitably happens with signs over time, they can migrate, fall over, get blown away, or even be removed. Also, the Canmore Bylaw Office has contacted us about complaints received relating to a few signs that were on town property (Section 9 of the Town of Canmore Land Use Bylaw prohibits sign placement on public land).
We’re suggesting a sign check:
1. Make sure your sign is fully on your private property.
2. Has your sign disappeared?
3. Is your sign damaged or need reinstallation in the ground?
4. Please email us at: pofsigns@gmail.com and we will make the necessary repairs. We can also install new signs in accordance with the applicable town bylaw.
Donations towards the cost are much appreciated - $10 is our suggested amount for signs but is by no means mandatory. Donations can be made via e-transfer to protectingourfutures@gmail.com or through the donate button at Protecting our Futures Take Action.
Just a reminder of the key message: We object to the location of the proposed hotel/spa on the public greenspace and encourage the developer to find another site that is already designated for commercial use with fewer risks and damaging consequences for the community.
