Take Action Newsletter - August 2026

Welcome to our Take Action newsletter! The developer has not yet submitted their proposal to the Town, and we don’t know when this will happen. We may not receive much notice before a recommendation is made to Council by the Canmore Town Planning Department, and that’s one of the reasons we are asking you to act now.

Here’s a list of things you can do to help preserve the Rundleview greenspace forever.

Why Your Actions Matter

Imagine a future where wildlife no longer has a safe path through our community, and the Rundleview Greenspace exists only in memory.

That future is possible if we do not act now.

Rundleview Greenspace is more than an open piece of land. It is a vital natural area enjoyed by residents, families, children, and wildlife. Located adjacent to important wildlife corridors and habitat patches, this greenspace plays a critical role in maintaining ecological connectivity throughout the Bow Valley.

There have been significant number of bear sightings in the Rundleview Greenspace over the past two months. These sightings remind us of the incredible wildlife that shares our landscape, they also highlight the importance of protecting this greenspace.

Open, connected natural areas provide wildlife with the space they need to move safely through the valley without being forced deeper into residential neighbourhoods. When habitat is lost or fragmented, animals have fewer options and are more likely to travel through developed areas, increasing the potential for human-wildlife conflicts.

Protecting Rundleview Greenspace is not just about conserving habitat— it’s also about creating safer outcomes for wildlife, visitors and residents. Maintaining natural movement corridors and open spaces helps reduce the pressures that can push bears and other wildlife into our community while preserving the ecological connections that make the Bow Valley unique.

Once these natural spaces are lost, they cannot be replaced.

Our Community's Legacy

Future generations will never ask why we tried to protect a greenspace. They will ask why we didn't.

This is our opportunity to protect a place where children can experience nature, where wildlife can move safely across the landscape, and where our community can continue to enjoy the benefits of healthy, connected natural spaces.

Together, we can protect Rundleview Greenspace, reduce human-wildlife conflicts, preserve critical habitat and wildlife connections, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

The time to act is now.
